Fruit Farm Allrounder

Sudbourne, Suffolk

The company

High House Fruit Farm is a family-owned and run fruit farm producing a wide variety of fruit, as well as apple juices, all of which are sold locally. There is a small farm shop on-site, selling seasonal fruit and farmhouse-made preserves. ‘Pick-your-own’ soft fruit is popular during the summer months, and there is also a self-catering holiday cottage. Although not organic, the land is farmed with care for the environment and an emphasis on habitat diversity.

The job

As an ‘Allrounder’ you will be involved in every aspect of running the farm, working closely with the owner on a daily basis on a wide variety of tasks. You’ll be driving small tractors and operating a range of agricultural machinery, much of which is ‘vintage’ but still very much fit for purpose! There will be times you’ll be repairing, servicing, and troubleshooting machinery so a practical approach is certainly necessary. You’ll conduct local deliveries in the company van, attend the occasional farmers market, and work closely with the small close-knit team to ensure the smooth-running of the operation. There is also an opportunity to be more involved in the growing process, if you are a keen horticulturalist!

This role is billed as an Allrounder for a reason – it is almost impossible to list every task you might find yourself completing. A real mixture of farm work, estate work, light maintenance, and more. You’ll love the outdoors and thrive on the variety that working on a small-scale farm offers. A truly rare role replacing a very long-standing member of staff.
